Super Typhoon Haiyan

Super Typhoon Haiyan

Super Typhoon Haiyan has today made landfall on the Philippines, sparking warnings of catastrophic damage as winds of up to 378km/h ravage the country.

There have been reports that Haiyan may be the strongest storm recorded in history.

The Typhoon reached Samar Island in the region of Luzon, approximately 600km southeast of Manilla and is expected to move across the central and southern regions before moving out to the South China Sea. Haiyan is then predicted to touch down in Vietnam by Saturday evening local time.

The damaging winds are reported to be similar to those experienced in an exceptional category 5 cyclone. It is estimated that close to 12 million people will be affected over the coming days.
